NATIONAL MOCK TRIAL TEAM: INFORMATION SESSION AND TRYOUTS
Coaches Danny Schaffzin, Jodi Wilson, and Brigid Welsh invite 2L and 3L students to try out for the Law School’s 2017-18 National Trial Team.
2017-18 Regional Competition: The National Trial Team will compete in the Regional Rounds of the National Trial Competition at the University of Tennessee School of Law in February 2018.
Tryout Information Session: An Information Session about the National Trial Team, which will include details about tryouts for the Team, will be held on Monday, October 2nd, at 12:15 p.m., in the Historic Courtroom. The Information Session is NOT mandatory.
Tryout Dates and Times: Tryouts will be held on Monday, October 9th, and on Tuesday, October 10th. Each tryout will last 15 minutes.
Preparation: Applicants will be expected to give a closing argument based on Canas v. Hammer, a case file from a previous National Trial Competition. The closing argument should be 5-7 minutes in length. Applicants can argue for either the Plaintiff or the Defendant. Any questions about the substance of the closing argument should be directed to Coach Schaffzin, Coach Wilson, or Coach Welsh.
Registration: Interested students should register for the National Mock Trial Team’s TWEN page (2017-18 National Mock Trial Team”) and sign-up for a tryout slot under the “sign-up sheets” tab on the TWEN page. Once you have signed up for a tryout slot, please e-mail a current resume to Coach Welsh. You can access the tryout case file, Canas v. Hammer, under the “Tryouts Case File” tab on the TWEN page. Please register for your National Trial Team tryout by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, October 6th.
Thank you for your interest, and we look forward to seeing you at the information session on Monday, October 2nd.
